Who We Are

THE GREAT WALL has been serving the Rockford area for over 40 years. As a Rockford staple, we are proud to be a part of this community, and as a new member of the Miracle Mile, we hope to dedicate our time to providing service, economic growth, and cultural diversity to the community.

Wen “Alex” Zeng has been a chef for over 20 years. Along with the recipes passed down from the previous owners’ of the Great Wall, Alex has added dishes of his own creation that are influenced by Wuhan’s (his hometown) style of cooking. He also has learned a lot from his experience in owning his own restaurant over the last 20 years and working at various other Chinese-American restaurants before that. His upbringing as a scientist’s son has allowed him to turn the culinary arts into a science focus on quality and precision in cooking.

May Zeng is co-owner and has been in the restaurant business since she was a teenager. She runs and manages operations full-time. She enjoys the restaurant life for the social aspect and loves to interact with people. In her free time, she is also a representative of both Avon and Hempworx and is continuously looking for new business opportunities for the Great Wall while also managing our staff, providing excellent customer service, and building customer relationships.

Zifeng “Andrew” Zeng is a certified graphic designer from Rochester Institute of Technology. He is the eldest son of Alex and May. He helps assist with web design and ideas, menus, logos, and all other graphical work that needs to be done as well has helping with the day-to-day operations. He was born profoundly deaf but has let that stop him from pursuing his passions and help out at the restaurant when needed.

Zijian “Mickey” Zeng is the General Manager and son to May and Alex. He is an audit associate at RSM US LLP at the Rockford location and continues to help out at the restaurant in his free time. He has his Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) in Accounting Sciences from Rockford University, a Master’s degree in Accounting Sciences (M.A.S.), and is a CPA candidate (for which he is currently studying for). He acts as a general/project manager and assists day-to-day operations when needed.

Ziyi “Tommy” Zeng is a current student at Rock Valley College and recent graduate from Auburn High School’s Renaissance Gifted Academy. He is a major part of the success at the Great Wall as he spends a great deal of time helping to run operations, day-to-day managerial tasks, and assists a great deal on projects with his brother providing insight and consultation when needed.
